Saturday 21th January Of More Masks and Games

Not a huge amount to add from last week.

We continued the mask work and looked a little more at Meisner. The majority of each class was spent making sure that everybody had a go in the masks.

The fantastic thing that has come out of these sessions with masks is the discovery of a new freedom in performance. It's often the case that some of the kids understandably become very self- conscious in front of others.

The mask allows for a form of escape from that. The focus is removed from the face of the performer and the performer can 'act' freely, 'behind the mask'. Therefore, as a way of teaching how to perform, the mask provides the perfect protection for the performer to act naturally whilst not worrying about what they look like. And hence, some of the students began to show a level of performance and confidence that had previously gone untapped.

A fantastic couple of weeks.
